Microsoft made a splash last month with its new Surface Studio—a $3,000, 28-inch all-in-one touch-screen all-in-one compatible with the Surface Pen and novel Surface Dial input device.

But the idea isn't exactly original: Two years ago, Dell teased a similar "smart desk" concept, which resurfaced at this week's Adobe Max conference.

As MSPoweruser reports, a video shown ahead of a keynote highlighted a dual-screen device with interactive LCD touch displays, stylus pen compatibility, and oddly, a removable dial.

Unlike Microsoft's Surface Studio—which comes with a hinged display, keyboard, and mouse—the Dell device includes two screens: one vertical monitor and one horizontal worktop designed to interface with various systems.

"Dell energized the audience with a sneak peek of its smart desk concept in action, teasing its innovative functionality and the exciting potential it will bring to creators everywhere," a company spokeswoman tells PCMag. She also points out that Dell first discussed the device two years ago.

The setup "instinctually separates seeing from doing," the company wrote in a late-2014 blog post. "Primary work activities are close to the user while secondary ones are further away, accessible through intuitive screen swipes."

Dell has not revealed details like specs, pricing, or a release timeline. But look for it at CES in January.

The Surface Studio, meanwhile, is expected to arrive in early 2017. If you pre-order before Dec. 1, Microsoft will throw in a free Surface Dial, which will otherwise retail for $99.

Prices for the Studio start at $2,999 for a 1TB SSD running a sixth-gen Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and a 2GB Nvidia GeForce GPU. The top-of-the-line 2TB Studio with intel Core i7, 32GB of RAM, and a 4GB Nvidia GeForce GPU will set you back $4,199.
