Buying Guide: Novint Falcon

Force-feedback joysticks have been increasing the level of interactivity between players and the games they love for more than a decade. PC peripherals like steering wheels and game controllers first started the trend. Soon after that gaming consoles began including this feature, starting with the Nintendo 64 and leading all the way up to the innovative, motion-detecting Nintendo Wii. What many folks don't know is that during the same show that saw the introduction of the Wii—E3 of 2006—a company by the name of Novint Technologies introduced the Novint Falcon, a PC input device more advanced than any gaming peripheral on the market, period. Much like the Wii Remote, the Novint Falcon allows you to interact in a 3D space by actually performing motions with your hand. The Falcon takes interaction to a whole new level, though, by enabling you to experience both depth and feeling. In a nutshell, the Novint Falcon has the potential to be an amazing gaming controller—if it can garner the software support it deserves.
