Mercedes-Benz has a shiny new electric vehicle concept, dubbed Generation EQ, which boasts twin electric motors, zero-emission drivetrain technology, and a range of up to 311 miles.

The "monolithic basic form" of the vehicle, unveiled at the Paris Auto Show, "unites the genes of an SUV with the dynamic character of a coupe," the company said, highlighting concealed windshield wipers, cameras instead of exterior mirrors, and a puzzling absence of conventional door handles.

"Its fascination lies in a reinterpretation of our design philosophy of sensual purity, the aim being to create an avant-garde, contemporary and distinctive electro-look," Wagener explained. "At the same time, the design of the visionary show car, which has been reduced to the essentials, reveals an alluring progressivity."

Inside the "driver-oriented cockpit" (above) is a 24-inch widescreen HD display, which presents relevant information like speed, range, driving data, navigation, and map details. The interior's only switches or knobs come in the form of electric seat adjusters; door openers and electric window lifters are touch-controlled.

As you walk toward the car, it will automatically adjust to a specific "welcome" color scheme, Mercedes says. Once everyone is settled, the car switches to an electric blue color as lights in the doors and on the seats dim. The display shows how much juice the car has left, and where someone can go with the remaining charge.

Mercedes next-gen EVs will be a mix of steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber for what the company says is a lightweight-yet-strong and cost-efficient design. Plus, it can be scaled for use across various models, including SUVs, saloons, coupes, and cabriolets.

The EQ name stands for "Electric Intelligence," and promises a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem that ranges from electric vehicles and wallboxes to charging services and home energy storage units.

"The mobility of the future at Mercedes-Benz will stand on four pillars: connected, autonomous, shared, and electric. 'Generation EQ' is the logical fusion of all four pillars," said Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Dailmer AG and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
