Activision will kick off the holiday shopping season with Call of Duty: Black Ops III, which is scheduled for a Nov. 6 release.

Set in a gritty future where cybernetics and biotech have bred a new type of soldier, Black Ops III pushes technology to its limits. But will technology push back?

Players step inside the mind of an interconnected commando, who is faster, more lethal, and ready to guide players through a new four-player co-op campaign and redesigned multiplayer experience.

"With a new momentum-based, chained movement system that allows players to move fluidly through environments and maintain constant control of their weapon, Call of Duty: Black Ops III is packed with new multiplayer features," Activision Communications Manager Scott Lowe wrote in a blog post.

Game developers also added a new weapon customization system, as well as the Specialist system, which lets users choose and rank nine elite Black Ops troopers, each with a unique appearance, personality, backstory, weapons, and abilities.

"And, of course, it wouldn't be Black Ops without Treyarch's signature Zombies," Lowe said.

Fans can expect more details about the undead later this year, but Lowe teased that the feature comes with its own story and XP progression system, "adding new levels of depth and replayability."

Activision also released a trailer (video above) and announced that a multiplayer beta will be available to those who pre-order the title for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC.

The first-person shooter franchise has gone through various iterations, from World War II-based games to Modern Warfare and Ghosts story arcs. But, according to Activision Senior Vice President Rob Kostich, the Black Ops series is the most popular.
