Adam Boyes, PlayStation's VP of Third Party Relations, is leaving Sony Entertainment America to return to his game-developing roots.

The executive announced his resignation Thursday on the PlayStation Blogcast and via Twitter.

Adam Boyes"I have made the super, super difficult decision to leave PlayStation," Boyes said in conversation with Sid Shuman, SIEA social media senior manager. "It's been an amazing run," he said of his four years with Sony.

Despite what he called an "incredible experience," Boyes is chasing his dream of making video games again.

"Making games, seeing all the success and seeing all the people out there doing great things and putting caution to the wind is pretty exciting," he said of his "big, dumb decision."

After bouncing from Electronic Arts to Next Level Games to Midway Games to Capcom, Boyes ran Beefy Media for two years before taking a job with Sony, where he oversees publisher and developer relations and manages third-party partnerships.

"It's actually the longest job I've ever had in my career," he told Shuman, looking back on a 21-year career in gaming.

"This job has afforded me the ability to go and look at stuff way before it comes out, and talk to developers. But now I get to go up there and use my own ideas and make things again with a team, and that's the kind of stuff that just … fills my bucket," Boyes said. "Not that [working for PlayStation] isn't amazing. It's been incredible. But creating things again is so neat."

Boyes did not reveal his official last day, where he is going next, or what video games are on his horizon.
