Sony and Microsoft's next-gen consoles hit the market in November, but everyone's favorite 8-bit video game is just making its way to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

No, not Flappy Bird. Minecraft will go on sale in August for $19.99 on the new machines, as well as PlayStation 3 and the PS Vita.

"Apologies for the delay, but putting Minecraft on new consoles is a serious business," Mojang's Owen Hill wrote in a blog post.

The game maker outlined details for each console's release, promising bigger worlds and greater draw distance than former versions, as well as more cross-platform opportunities.

It will also be easier to import saved worlds from previous games; the process only works moving forward (PS3 to PS4 or Xbox 360 to Xbox One ), and there is no way to shift new worlds to old consoles.

"We can make worlds bigger without too much stress," Hill said, "but shrinking them causes all kinds of problems."

An added bonus for Xbox and PlayStation owners: Many, though not all, of the DLC skins and texture packs purchased in the past will be made available in the new title.

"We'd like to say all of your DLC would transfer, but some of the items are trapped in licensing deals that are too boring to get into here," Hill wrote, promising more on the topic soon.

Another drawback: cross-platform play will not be possible between consoles.

The PlayStation 3 + Vita Edition, meanwhile, comes with all the features from the most recent PS3 version, including online Vita play, which comes free for anyone who purchased the game from the PlayStation Network.

There is even some talk of a Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft for PlayStation 3, Vita, and PS4 ; more details are expected this summer.

In an effort to shower fans with appreciation, Mojang plans to offer existing players the choice to upgrade "for a small fee" of only $4.99.

"We've decided that letting current players upgrade for a small fee is the best way to show our appreciation," Hill said. "If you're a new crafter who's looking to pick up Minecraft in the next few months—welcome!"

If new versions of the game aren't enough, just wait for the live-action film version of the celebrated massively online, open-world building world. Few details have been revealed; Mean Girls' Jill Messick will produce, alongside Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee—the man behind the animated hit The Lego Movie.
