AT&T on Wednesday fired up its 4G LTE network in St. Louis, bringing the carrier's nationwide total to 32 cities.

AT&T also announced the expansion of its 4G LTE coverage to Staten Island, N.Y., which means that all five New York City boroughs now have access to AT&T's ultra-fast mobile Internet.

"We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in St. Louis responds to what customers want from their mobile experience — more, faster, on the best devices," Nancy Garvey, AT&T's vice president and general manager for the greater Midwest region, said in a statement.

According to the company, the 4G LTE service can deliver mobile Internet speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G. Among the list of LTE-compatible devices AT&T offers is the Nokia Lumia 900, which was released over the weekend.

AT&T last month announced plans to expand its 4G LTE footprint in April, May and early summer to almost a dozen new markets, from St. Louis to Baton Rouge.

AT&T's 4G LTE network went live in late 2011, adding 15 markets last year. In January, it was added to the New York City metro area, Austin, Chapel Hill, Los Angeles, Oakland, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose. Meanwhile, Verizon last month launched its own super-fast 4G LTE network in seven new markets, and said it it aims to double its number of LTE markets to 400 by the end of the year.
