SwiftKey 4 for Android

The first time you launch SwiftKey, the app quickly walks you through the process of changing your keyboard.

Flow is SwiftKey's take on Swype-like text entry, where letters are selected by dragging your thumb across the keys. This feature is new to SwiftKey 4.

SwiftKey supports 60 languages, and several variant keyboards including those with non-Latin characters.

In order to switch between keyboards, press and hold the space bar and slide left or right. Language and keyboard settings are managed from the app's settings menu.

In addition to a slick-looking keyboard, SwiftKey also has smart shortcuts to punctuation and settings right on the keyboard.

You can turn on a split keyboard for landscape view from the settings menu in SwiftKey. The app also politely ignores credit card, passwords, and email information from its predictive text.

One of SwiftKeys more surprising offerings are statistics which attempt to demonstrate the apps value to you. I can feel my competitive nature itching.

In order to determine if SwiftKey was providing useful suggestions, I developed the "Horse_eBooks Test" where I typed nonsensical wordsalad posts from the famed Twitter account. If SwiftKey was actually keyed to human language, and me specifically, it should have struggled to predict the words. I found that this was the case in my highly scientific experiment.

Double tapping the space bar to add a period was an iOS master stroke, and SwiftKey finally brings this feature to Android users.
