New Apple iPad

Apple's latest iPad packs a speedy new processor, an ultra-sharp display, and better cameras, but even with all that extra power packed inside, the new iPad looks just like the old iPad.

The real showstopper is the new iPad's dazzling 2,048-by-1,536-pixel Retina display.

That's the new iPad on the left, it's less than a millimeter thicker than the iPad 2, but you can't really tell in this photo--or in person.

The new iPad is on the left in this shot--you can see that text looks clearer, although the effect is much more pronounced in person.

The new iPad is only .03 inch thicker than the iPad 2.

The new iPad is available with Wi-Fi only or with Wi-Fi and 4G LTE on AT&T or Verizon Wireless. We tested the Verizon version.

Given the nearly identical dimensions, the new iPad will retain compatibility with existing Smart Covers.

The back of the new iPad is the same brushed aluminum as in the past.
